Current Projects


Healthy Households (June 2015-February 2016)

  • Description
    • Participating community health workers (CHW or AC) attend a training once per month on community specific health issues. Each AC visits six households twice per month to train on the topic of the month, conduct activities to apply knowledge, and then survey the households to monitor knowledge and behavior change.
  • Goals
    • Build capacity in local ACs about community specific health issues, behavior change communication, and organization skills.
    • Educate about 500 community members, and target pregnant women and mothers with children under five years in one-on-one setting about health topics such as safe motherhood, family planning, nutrition, baby vaccines, intestinal diseases, and safe water treatment.


Pump and Well Repairs (November 2015-February 2016)

    • Raised funds to repair two public pumps and two public wells to increase access to potable water sources by approximately 50%.
    • Partnered with Durrell Wildlife to provide technicians and pump maintenance trainings for local carpenters.
    • Organized water committees to ensure maintenance plan and project longevity.
    • Trained community members are project budget and management.


Past Projects

Traveling WASH Festival (November 4-6, 2015)
  • Collaborated with other PCVs and partnered with PSI to host festivals educating children and adults on water treatment, hygiene, and sanitation through demonstrations, games, and a movie. About 600 people in attendance.
Caring Response Madagascar Foundation (CRMF) Translator (September 2015)
  • Translated for American doctors and Malagasy patients during six free healthcare clinics with the CRMF mission.
GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) Camp (June-July 2015)
  • Organized mini camps for 20 high school students to learn about women empowerment and gender equality.
  • Collaborated with three other PCVs to organize a regional camp held in the capital. Chose five girls and one counterpart to assist to the regional GLOW camp where girls learned about education and work opportunities, and skills such as goal setting, action plans, and journaling.
Health Education in Schools (June-July 2014 and June 2015)
  • Taught classes about water, hygiene and sanitation, and malaria
Helping Babies Breathe (November 2014-April 2015)
  • Attended a training held by MercyShips about proper resuscitation techniques on newborns and how to train local hospital staff as non-medical personnel.
  • Tracked the birth rate at the hospital for 8 weeks prior to and after the training as well as proper use of equipment.
HIV/AIDS Traveling Festival (April 6-12, 2015)
  • Collaborated with other PCVs and partnered with PSI to host festivals educating about STIs, and HIV/AIDS prevention through demonstrations, games, and a movie. About 1,000 people in attendance
Trainer (March 2015)
  • Advised Peace Corps trainees during their technical trip during health presentations and activities at schools, community centers, and a festival.
Regional Malaria Coordinator (June 2014-January 2016)
  • Attended trainings on malaria and was the liaison between the national malaria coordinator and volunteers in the region about malaria activities.
  • Assisted ACs during the national mosquito net distribution (November 2015)
Prenatal Consultations and Baby Vaccines (ongoing)
  • Assisted midwife with appointments and record keeping every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Clubs
  • Youth Club-educated students 12-20 years about life skills and health (Oct-Dec 2014)
  • Cooking club-demonstrated healthy cooking for mothers with children under 5 years (May 2014-April 2015)
  • English club-taught beginning English for adults (Oct-Dec 2014)
